The Basics

What is Write.app

Write.app is a place for you to store and share notes. It's a writing platform for anyone who wants to write privately but also share notes selectively. Write.app is perfect for keeping a journal, writing a book, writing blog posts, or anything that requires a beautiful, distraction-free writing environment.

Write.app is more than just a website though. Besides this site we have several extensions that allow you to save to and pull from your account both online and off. These include our Sublime Text plugin, command line app, and Wreditor which is a tool that lets you use the Write.app note editor on your home computer or embedded on a website you own.

Create an account

The first step to using Write.app is creating an account! To create an account you'll need to choose a username, password, and have a valid email address. You can sign up for an account on the homepage or on the register page. There's also a signup form on the bottom of this page!

Usernames need to be at least one character long and can contain only letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores.

Passwords are required to be six characters long and are case-sensitive. That means that the example passwords "password", "PassWoRd", and "PASSWORD" are all different as far as Write.app is concerned. So be sure to take this into account when creating your account. If you ever lose your password you can reset it here.

Email addresses must be unique. This means you cannot sign up for multiple accounts using the same email address. Part of the reason for this is so we can provide features like posting notes by email which allows you to save a note to your account by sending it from the email address you signed up with.

Writing notes

Writing notes is simple. Once you've registered for an account (or logged in) you'll be taken directly to the editor, which we call Wreditor. The editor currently has three views - standard view, light theme, and dark theme. The standard view allows you to write your note on the left using Markdown

Organizing notes

Notes are organized using the note manager which you can find by clicking the "Manage" link. The note manager allows you to read and edit notes as well as create notebooks. You can learn more about the note manager in our other guides.
